Grand Opening of Kahuzi-Biega Environmental School

The project was developed in association with The Great Apes Project at Univeristy of Toronto.

The land to build the school had been secured in September of 2006.  Everyone in the Congo was excited about this school, from the Environment Minister right down to the park guards, and of course, the children.

There was a contest to name the school and the name selected is Kahuzi-Biega Environmental School.

The name was submitted by a student named Tbisasi Muhanzi.  The prize for winning the contest was a year’s school supplies.

I am pleased to announce that in September, 2007, the school officially opened with the first class.

As you can see, there isn’t a seat to spare!
